    Report Problem

Thanks to Mojo’s Exclusive Safeway Deal HunterBargain Blessings, for providing all these great Safeway Deals! Jennie blogs out of Colorado and thrives on being frugal and living abundantly – without being cheap! She has a neat system for grading the grocery deals. You can see more about that here.

Quick Tip: Colorado Safeway stores double all coupons up to $1, so if you have a .40 coupon it will double to .80. A .75 coupon will double to $1, and a .25 coupon will double to .50!

For our readers outsite of Colorado, or with Safeway affiliate stores, be sure to check with your individual store for their double coupon policy. The scenarios below are based on double coupons.

Update on Safeway’s Coupon Policy: Safeway has added a new footer to their ads which will affect some of our deals. The new policy tells us that we will not be able to use two $ off coupons on a Buy One Get One Free Sale. A Manufacturer coupon may not be used on the free item.
In my honest opinion this policy is another demonstration of stores having a poor understanding of how coupons work and benefit both stores and manufacturers. Keep in mind that there are stores that it included in their coupon policy that using two coupons on a BOGO sale is acceptable. The Safeway policy also states that consumers will need to pay tax on the “free” item. A few of you have e-mailed me asking what we can do about this new policy. Unfortunately, Safeway has the right to make their coupon policy read whatever it wants and what they say goes. We can however, contact Safeway corporate to let them know how we feel about the new policy.

    1. I don’t usually do Safeway (without coupons, they were just too expensive and I can’t seem to find anything there). I decided to try them out a few weeks ago. I had 4 windex cleaners and 4 coupons for windex cleaner. The clerk said she could only take one (now, the cleaner was around $2, the coupons were for $1 and I was supposed to get a $4 catalina coupon when you buy 4)…without the other 3 coupons, this was not a freebie. I didn’t buy ANY of them – and frankly, it will be a long time before I’m back (except for donuts – I know where those are!). Does their policy say anything about this? And is it somewhere I can print it out?

By the way, one of the Targets in my area is doing a similar thing (makes it hard to get the gift card deals AND use coupons to get a better deal). I DO have their policy – and usually just smile and then take the coupons to the closer Target store and ask them to adjust for missed coupons). I was told that they had a big meeting and are trying to avoid coupon fraud – and “I’m on tape” she said.

      • We don’t have a Safeway in our area. But our Walmart will only accept 1 (like) internet printed coupon per transaction. I wonder is Safeway is the same?

As for Target, I guess they now have you ‘on tape’ teaching their employees about their own coupon policy…lol.
